Two arrested over lynching of police officer in Kashmir capital: Police chief
Jammu and Kashmir Police Chief SP Vaid on Friday said that two persons have been arrested over the lynching of a police officer in Srinagar last night.
"We have arrested two persons, third one has been identified," Vaid told reporters after the wreath laying ceremony of the DySP Ayub Pandit. "Rest of the guilty will face the law too."
Pandit was beaten to death outside Jamia Masjid in downtown Srinagar at around 2 am.
"Invetsigation is going on but initial reports suggest that some miscreants who were shouting slogans caught hold of DySP while he was coming out of the mosque after inspecting access control. They started beating and lynched him," said Vaid.
When asked about the firearm injuries to three civilians, Vaid said that the officer had a pistol on him. "He had the right to self-defence," said Vaid.
